Drug Rehab For Veterans - A Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

If you or a loved one needs help with substance abuse, you may be able to find a drug rehab for veterans through a local treatment center or private facility. Veterans face many unique obstacles in returning to civilian living following military service or deployment, often resulting from psychological stress. Many of these difficulties stem from the post-war emotional trauma and result in substance abuse and addiction.

Tricare for Veterans provides many active-duty service members and their family members with health insurance coverage, which includes outpatient treatment. Substance abuse and addiction are at an all-time high among active-duty personnel, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The goal of outpatient treatment centers and inpatient treatment facilities is to provide the highest quality care for all inpatient conditions, which may include treating depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, alcoholism, drug addiction and other mental health conditions. Substance abuse and addiction should always be treated as a medical condition with the proper resources available to treat it accordingly.

The Department of Veterans Affairs offers a wide range of resources for those who are in need of substance abuse and for families who are trying to help their loved one recover. There are also national alcohol rehab support groups that can provide support after a traumatic event such as a divorce, discharge from the hospital, or any other traumatic event. Private support groups are also available, but these groups are much harder to find and join. Substance abuse and addiction are on the rise among vets; the Department of Veterans Affairs recognizes this and offers a wide range of resources to address the issue.

Substance abuse and addiction are treatable through a combination of medication, therapy and support groups. The goal of every va rehab treatment facility is to treat each patient in an individualized and private environment. However, many Veterans have found that the more personal-based rehabilitation is best for them, such as short-term inpatient or residential outpatient drug rehab centers.

Short term drug rehab centers are designed to provide a comprehensive service in the shortest time frame while focusing on the symptoms and causes of substance abuse and addiction. The services offered may include individual, group, or family-focused counseling, medication education and treatment. Longer term services may involve detoxification, social or spiritual support, education about the disease, and relapse prevention. Residential drug rehab centers offer the same benefits as short-term care, but typically offer longer stay, multiple treatment options and access to specialized detox and addiction treatment programs. Many clinics offer a 24-hour helpline for patients who cannot self-refer.

The number of Veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder is growing at an alarming rate. Since returning from a war or conflict can expose their mind and body to harmful substances, it is imperative that they receive proper substance abuse and addiction treatment. If not treated, PTSD can worsen over time and result in more serious issues such as depression and suicidal thoughts. It is essential that if a Veteran or someone you know is exhibiting signs of PTSD, that you take them to an inpatient rehab for veterans center immediately. Do not wait to see if it will go away on its own; seek help as soon as possible. You can learn more about this topic at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-traumatic_stress_disorder.
